Memphis Drops to Southern Miss

HATTIESBURG, Miss - Chris Crawford won a career-high 23 factors, but was not able to connect on a Southern Miss beat Memphis, 75-72 and three-point shot at the buzzer. Crawford linked on 9-of-15 (60.0 percent) field-goal attempts, including 5-of-7 (71.4 percent) from three-point selection.

Southern Miss were trailed by Memphis 15-7 6-2 C-USA (20-3, 7-1 C-USA), 69-65, with under a second to play, when Will Barton selected a wayward free-throw try and drove the length of the floor. Barton sank both free throws and drew a foul.

Barton then fouled Neil Watson, who pulled down a set of images from the charity stripe, and Joe Jackson instantly forced the ball up the court for the layin, keeping the Tigers\\\' debt at two points.

On the ensuing Southern Miss control, Antonio Barton flicked the ball from Watson and right into Jackson\\\'s fingers. Garcia related on the first free place, but missed the second. Both Jackson and Wesley Witherspoon missed on put-back attempts and the Tigers still trailed by a stage with 22 seconds remaining. After two were sunk by Darnell Dodson free throws for USM, D.J. Memphis\\\' leading scorer, Will Barton, scored 15 factors and Joe Jackson included 14. Antonio Barton was the fourth Tiger in double-digits, posting 10 items on the morning.

Despite capturing 56.3 % (27-for-48) from the ground and limiting Southern Miss to 41.1 percent (23-of-56, Memphis couldn\\\'t overcome its bad rebounding energy and a strong free-throw shooting performance by the Golden Eagles.

Memphis was outrebounded, 36-23, ultimately causing 15 2nd opportunity items for Southern Miss. The Golden Eagles also connected on 24-of-27 (88.9 percent) of their cost-free throws, compared to 13-of-17 (76.5 %) for the Tigers.

Southern Miss clicked Memphis\\\' 18-game win streak from the Golden Eagles. This was the first time because the 2nd game of the 2003-04 period.

A three-pointer was nailed by Crawford at the buzzer to draw Memphis inside a stage, 34-33, at the break. First-half points were tallyed 18 by The sophomore guard, on 7-for-10 (70.0 percent) shooting, making him one position shy of his career-high with 20 minutes left to perform.
